High prevalence of antimicrobial residues in broiler meat in Bangladesh, India and Vietnam
This study assessed antibiotic residues in 558 chicken breast samples from farms and retail endpoints in India, Bangladesh, and Vietnam. While contamination decreased along the supply chain, 3.7–8.6% of samples at sale still exceeded safety limits, far higher than the EU level (~0.05–0.09%). The findings highlight gaps in compliance with withdrawal periods and underscore the need for stronger residue monitoring and greater awareness as poultry production intensifies.
